Madrid, capital of Spain, is located in the center of the Iberian Peninsula, at 667 meters above sea level. Built on the ruins of a Moorish fortress called "Mayrit" land of water, hence the name Madrid became the capital in 1561. During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, known as the "Golden Age", Madrid was the city of writers such as Cervantes, Quevedo and Calderon and painters such as Velázquez. Lively city in terms of culture and art, is visited each year by millions of tourists, attracted certainly historic sites such as Plaza Mayor and the Prado Museum extraordinary, but also by its great nightlife, the unforgettable "nightlife madrileña."
