Bangkok is the capital of Thailand, formerly called Siam. Located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, near the Gulf of Thailand, and economic center of the country, Bangkok is undergoing an intense process of growth. At the dawn of its history, Bangkok was a small town portuario, called Bang Makok.
