The name is a transcription of the western local pronunciation of Mandarin Xiang gang, which means "port of incense." Hong Kong Chinese is therefore one hundred per cent, from 30 May 1997 also politically, at the end of 99 years of "rent" by the British. And it is western in all respects, with the forest of skyscrapers, the hustle and bustle of business, traffic, luxury cars, lavish hotels, the subway was spotless. The territory is made up of over 250 islands, beginning with that of Hong Kong, Kowloon Peninsula and the New Territories, with a total area of one thousand square kilometers, inhabited by six and a half million people. Koowlon is the area most frequented by tourists, with famous hotels, an impressive number of restaurants, the Museum of History and Space Museum, shops, markets and flea markets. Take the ferry from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island, where there is the Victoria Peak, (400 meters), also reached by tram running from Garden Road. You should go there twice during the day to see the bay, the mountains, the Peninsula, the mainland, and night, to see Hong Kong lit. An unforgettable sight.
